The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) is all set to release the much-awaited advertisement for the recruitment of Assistant Prosecution Officers (APOs). The notification is expected in September 2025, making it the first major APO recruitment since 2022. Nearly 210 posts have been identified, and this recruitment drive comes with a revised exam pattern and updated syllabus.

For law graduates, this is both a golden opportunity and a fresh challenge.

What are the Major Highlights of the UP APO Recruitment?

(1) Advertisement in September

  • The official notification is likely to be published in September 2025.
  • Around 210 posts have been identified across different departments.

(2) Changes in Preliminary Examination

Now, the revised UP APO Preliminary exam syllabus will carry 150 marks, divided as follows:

  • General Studies – 50 marks
  • Law – 100 marks: Detailed Breakup of the Law Paper (100 marks):
    • Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023 – 30 marks
    • Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023 – 25 marks
    • Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), 2023 – 20 marks
    • U.P. Police Act and Regulations under this Act – 15 marks
    • Constitution of India – 10 marks

(3) Revised Main Examination Pattern

The Main Examination will now be of 500 marks, spread across six papers.

Subjects in Mains:

  • General Hindi – 100 marks
  •  General English – 50 marks
  •  General Studies – 50 marks
  •  Criminal Law and Procedure – 100 marks
  •  Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 – 100 marks
  • Other Relevant Acts – 100 marks

(4) Focus on New Laws

In addition to traditional subjects, the exam will also include questions from:

  • Ten newly enacted laws, and
  • The Uttar Pradesh Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024

Why These Changes in UP APO Vacancy Matter?

The updated scheme shows UPPSC’s intent to align the APO recruitment process with India’s new criminal law ecosystem. With IPC, CrPC, and the Evidence Act replaced by BNS, BNSS, and BSA, aspirants must shift their preparation accordingly.

The addition of General English in mains further ensures that APOs are equipped with strong communication skills. A 150-mark prelims guarantees a rigorous screening process, while the 500-mark mains tests both depth of legal knowledge and broader competencies.

What are the Key Takeaways for Aspirants Regarding Upcoming UP APO Vacancy?

With 210+ vacancies, the upcoming APO exam is a career-defining opportunity. To succeed, candidates should:

  • Prepare General Studies, Law, and Hindi for prelims.
  • Study all parts of the Law paper (BNS, BNSS, BSA, UP Police Act, and other Acts).
  • Strengthen General Hindi and General English for mains.
  • Stay updated on ten new laws and the The Uttar Pradesh Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.

Conclusion

The APO recruitment in Uttar Pradesh is not just another exam, it is a modernized selection process designed to select candidates who are legally updated, linguistically capable, and professionally competent. With nearly 210 vacancies and a completely revised syllabus, aspirants must adapt their preparation to the new exam structure and the latest criminal law reforms.
