About Jharkhand APP

The Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) has released the official notification for the Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) 2025 recruitment. This prestigious position offers a significant opportunity for law graduates to join the state's prosecution machinery and contribute to the criminal justice system. 

The exam will be held in three stages

  • Preliminary Examination 
  • Main (Written) Examination 
  • Interview (Personality Test)

Eligibility Criteria

  • Educational Qualification 
    • Candidates must possess a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree. 
    • The degree must be recognized and make the candidate eligible to practice law in Indian courts. 
    • A certificate in computer operation is mandatory
  • Age Limit 

Reference date for age limit - 01.08.2024 

(a) Minimum age limit - 21 years. 

(b) Maximum age limit - As per Resolution No.-29 dated 04.01.2021 of the Department of Personnel, Administrative Reforms and Official Language, Government of Jharkhand, the maximum age limit for appointment of Assistant Public Prosecutor is as follows:

  • Government employees who have completed three (03) years of continuous service will be given a relaxation of 05 years in the maximum age limit. (As per Jharkhand Prosecution Service Rules (Amendment) Notification No.-2129, dated-19.04.2017) 
  • Ex-servicemen will be given a relaxation of 05 years in the maximum age limit prescribed for their reservation category. 

Stages of the Jharkhand APP Examination

The selection process consists of the following three phases: 

1. Preliminary Examination

  • Mode: Objective Type (MCQ-based) 
  • Total Marks: 300 
  • Duration: 2 Hours per Paper 
  • Papers: 
    • Paper 1 (General Studies) – 100 Marks 
    • Paper 2 (Law Subjects) – 200 Marks

  • Indian Polity and Constitution 
  • Indian Geography

  • Current Affairs (National & International) 
  • History, Geography, Economy, and Culture of Jharkhand 

Paper 2 – Law Subjects 

  • Indian Penal Code (or Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023) 
  • Criminal Procedure Code (or Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023) 
  • Indian Evidence Act (or Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023) 
  • Indian Constitution 

Shortlisting Criteria: 

Candidates will be shortlisted for the Mains in a 1:13 ratio (i.e., 13 times the number of vacancies).

  • Candidates must choose one language (e.g., Santali, Mundari, Ho, Kudukh, Nagpuri, Kurmali, Khortha, etc.) 
  • Marks: 100 
  • Minimum Passing Marks: 
    • General: 40% 
    • BC: 36.5% 
    • BC-I: 34% 
    • SC/ST/Women: 32% 
    • Primitive Tribe: 30% 
    • EWS: 40% 
  • Note: Marks in this paper are not added to the merit but passing it is compulsory. 

3. Interview (Personality Test) 

  • Total Marks: 50 
  • Shortlisting Ratio: 1:3 (i.e., 3 times the number of vacancies) 

Final Merit: 

Determined on the basis of marks obtained in the Main Exam + Interview

In case of a tie, the older candidate will be given preference. 

Reservation and Special Provisions 

  • Only permanent residents of Jharkhand are eligible for reservation benefits. 
  • Valid caste, domicile, and disability certificates must be submitted. 
  • PwD candidates must have at least 40% disability
  • Jharkhand Government employees with 3+ years of service receive 5 years relaxation
  • Ex-servicemen must submit proof of discharge and service history.

  • Online Application Start: 29 June 2025 
  • Last Date to Apply: 21 July 2025 (up to 5:00 PM) 
  • Fee Payment Window: Till 22 July 2025 
  • Applications submitted after the deadline will not be accepted.

  • Start with Bare Acts of major laws (IPC, CrPC, Evidence Act, Constitution). 
  • Daily current affairs reading for Paper 1. 
  • Practice essay and answer writing regularly.
